*Filing deadlines. Generally, the filing deadline is 62 days prior to election day; however, outside law may provide a different general election filing deadline. See Section 144.005(a) of the Texas Election Code. Local political subdivisions other than cities or school districts might not have a "first day" to file. Filing deadlines vary for special elections to fill vacancies. See Section 201.054 of the Texas Election Code. Write-in deadlines for general and special elections also vary, but the deadline is usually on the 5th day after the regular filing deadline for the election. Generally, the first day to file is 30 days before the filing deadline.
